A dog park visit begins before the leash comes off. At Frank Boone Dog Park in Swift-Cantrell Park, the city’s rules ask owners to keep dogs leashed until inside the double-gated entry area, then remove the leash before entering the second gate. Leaving reverses the process.
The city describes a 1.5-acre enclosure with separate areas for large, medium and small dogs, along with water and cleanup facilities. The small-dog area is limited to dogs weighing less than 30 pounds. Owners need to remain attentive and keep dogs under voice control and in sight.

Check the full rules before a first visit. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated with tags displayed; sick or aggressive dogs, dogs in heat and puppies younger than six months are not permitted. Food and treats are prohibited inside the off-leash area.
For a newcomer, a short visit can be a useful starting point. Watch how your dog responds and be ready to leave if the setting is overwhelming. Keep the gate clear, carry a leash and clean up promptly. Shared space works best when owners are watching their dogs as closely as they are enjoying the conversation.
